Hero's of Tanith: First Batch

The forest world of Tanith was located in the Sabbat Worlds cluster. Covered in towering forests of ancient tree's known as nalwoods, it was a peaceful, backwater world of little importance to the Imperium, and with no significant military presence, very open to the enemies of that Imperium. During the second Sabbat Crusade, the Imperium decided to take advantage of the Tanith's unique stealth and recon abilities, and organized a total of 3 full regiments of Imperial Guard, with limited armour support, and placed them under the command of Colonel Commissar Ibram Gaunt.

However, the preparations would not last long, as, sundered by a recent Imperial victory, a Chaos fleet managed to circumvent the Imperial Naval picket guarding Tanith. With little time until their arrival, and knowing the battle was already lost, Gaunt chose to save the Tanith Regiments instead of stand and fight a lost battle. Only one regiment's worth of men escaped before the forces of Chaos obliterated the planet from high orbit, killing the entire civilian population, and the remaining Tanith Guardsmen. The survivors, some 3-4000 in total, became Gaunts Ghosts, and have fought the arch enemy for the freedom of the Sabbat worlds, and vengeance for their lost world.
